Delfin Quishpe - Torres Gemelas

Delfin Quishpe is an Indigenous Kichwa Ecuatorian singer-songwriter born in December 1977. Delfin created a music style that he calls "Andean techno-folklore” mixed with “Chichera” rhythm and cumbia roots. Since 2000, Delfin increased his popularity all over Ecuador. In 2006, “Torres Gemelas” (Twin Towers) was released and his fame grows in unexpected fields all over the world. While the song is tragic in nature, the subject matter being Delfin losing a loved one in the terrorist attack of 9/11, the whimsical and psyched nature of the song as well as the poor acting in the music video has made this song a bit of an hymn for the new generations. In a recent interview, Delfin explains about her lover who used to be a cleaner in New York, specifically in the Twin Towers. She died on 9/11, and the video is a remake of his own story. Actually, he says “we did the shooting in the living-room of my house, where I received her call in that tragic morning”.

Las Chicas Mañaneras - Terco Corazon

“Las Chicas Mañaneras” is a band created by Eusebio “Chato” Grados, originally from Cerro de Pasco, Peru. They perform since early 90´s, exploring the “Huaylarsh” and “Mulisa” rhythm mixed with strong cumbia roots. Las Chicas Mañaneras were well recieved with good reception from their audiences, taking them on tour in some cities in the U.S. But it was around 1999 when ”Luchito” Grados , after explore and experiment with his synthesizer gets a sound similar to an harp. He called this sound “arpa cibernetico” (cyber harp). Around the year 2000 the Grados brothers record the first album on this new genre in the music. That record had no significant impact in the peruvian market. But it was in 2002 when Higinio Mamani, from the bolivian record label Discos Condor, decides to take “Las Chicas Mañaneras” on tour all over Peru and Bolivia. The media and the audience were shocked.
The song below is called “Terco Corazon” (Fool heart) and talks about love in a really sweet way. It is very inportant to pay attention to the particular sound of this band, the nature on the video and the amazing dance.
